My Hair Journey (so far)

I’ve read so many people’s posts and watched so many videos about people’s hair journey and really over the past 10 months, I’ve been going on my own. I’m currently transitioning to my natural hair.

This was a decision I made in February, when it had been about 4 months since the last time I relaxed my hair. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always got the “creamy crack” on a regular schedule but it became a hassle and I could tell that my hair was becoming fragile and thin. Especially in the center of my head. Not to mention my dandruff.

Going to the salon was an option I couldn’t afford with time. My job takes so much and weekends are not open. I had to take handle on my hair and the relaxer wasn’t going to be an option anymore.

After making the decision, I still had to find out how to take care of my natural transitioning hair. It would be a different process than what I did before. I started with oils. My scalp was dry. I knew that for sure. I moved into getting argan, jojoba, and olive oil. For some reason, coconut didn’t do well on my scalp. After applying, my scalp felt more itchy and not at all hydrated. Nowadays, argan and avocado oil are my staple oils.

Being that it’s seven months into the new year and 10 months since I had my last perm, it was the best decision I’ve made. I’m still working with my relaxed ends since I didn’t opt for the “big chop” but I think in the coming month or by November, I will cut them off.

My hair feels softer, my scalp is hydrated and I don’t have as much dandruff as I had before. Really, I thought I would have to live with dandruff the rest of my life but realizing it’s just my scalp telling me that it’s a Sahara, I’ve moved to reduce that.

If you check out my instagram for this week, you will see the products that I’ve started to use. These will not be the only products that I have in my life. I will move to get more as I handle my hair better, but it’s a start.
