#XOReview - L’Oreal Pure-Clay Detox & Brighten Charcoal Mask

Charcoal masks should be in everyone’s arsenal! That’s what I thought. Not if you have super dry. I’m not super dry but the burning sensation I get from charcoal masks is not something that I should be having.

I picked this mask up about a year ago when they first came out. I applied the mask about twice a week. The strong fragrance with it wasn’t a turn off but the drying feeling and difficulty of washing it off was the problem. Before we get into how the mask was, let’s get into what the mask is.

The Detox & Brighten charcoal mask is just one of masks released by L’oreal in the Pure-Clay mask line (the latest being Clear & Comfort mask and the Pure-Clay cleansers). The charcoal mask is to...brighten and detox the skin (as the name says) in just 10 minutes - a radiant complexion with all the dirt and grime of the day pulled and washed away.

Along with charcoal powder, the mask contains Kaolin and Moroccan lava clay. The mask is a great mask to have for those with oily skin and to use for spot treating those buggers that pop up out of nowhere.

As I started to learn more about my skin type, I slowly stopped using the mask until it just started to take up space. It’s been a few months since I actually used the mask and it’s become very stiff in the jar which means it’s time for it to go bye bye.

While using the mask, it was very easy to apply, going onto the skin without much effort but very messy if you use your hands. After 10 minutes, the mask dries down and is very tight on the skin. If you are super oily, you can see the areas where the oil is pulled out.

For me, washing the mask off was a hassle and a mess. I didn’t want to mess up any of my face towels with wiping the mask off but in the end it was the only way to get it cleanly off. Plus, my bathroom was just a charcoal water mess afterwards - I don’t do well with wash off masks.

After the mask was off, my skin did look a bit brighter but it was mostly dry like a desert and need of moisture. It was very visible that my face was dry and ashy. I thought that was how it was supposed to be, but I’ve learned better.

For me, this mask was good mask to try but not something that I needed. I would recommend this for those with oily skin. If you are sensitive to fragrances, stay away from this mask. I don’t know what’s up with L’oreal but they add so much perfume to their products that it’s a turn-off. I have tried the other masks in the line (besides the clear & comfort) and I enjoyed using them more than this one.

If you are looking into picking up the masks, check your local Wal-mart, Target, Ulta, or get it from L’oreal - priced at $12.99 USD.

Until next post,

XOXO
