Who doesn’t like bright and glowing skin? For some weeks now, I’ve been looking at getting a vitamin C serum. It really started with the announcement of The Ordinary’s Vitamin C Suspension (which is sold out rn!) that I thought “I need a vitamin C in my routine”.
Why Vitamin C?
Why not? No, but really, besides giving you a bright, glowing complexion, the key vitamin in citrus, grapes, and strawberries provides awesome benefits from pollution/free radical protection to anti-aging.
I have a few brown spots from acne scarring (I was a picker long ago) and I’m not a young one anymore (a couple of months before I’m 30!). Like I said, I’ve been looking at vitamin c serums for some time and what better place to look than the place that has my heart and credit card number - SEPHORA.
Looking through the products, I found a product that I’ve heard plenty about - Sunday Riley C.E.O C+E antiOXIDANT moisturizer. I got a sample and fell in love but the price tag ($65 USD) was not for me. Other vitamin C products would have to step in until the big sale. That’s when I saw Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum.
I hadn’t really heard much on the product but Drunk Elephant was a brand that many people loved. I didn’t want just a small sample so finding Rise + Glow was a great thing. I could get a good size sample of DE products and get my vitamin C product. Along with the vitamin C serum, I would get to try out the hydration gel which would help me get into adding more hydration to my dry skin.
C-Firma Day Serum
Let’s start with the main star. A vitamin C day serum that helps to give a bright glow and evens skintone - what I wanted and needed!
Researching the different vitamin c products, I knew one thing, it shouldn’t be orange. This serum is orange...yellow/orange. That threw me and just worried me. After looking it up, it was supposed to be the light orangy color. So I went with it and started using it.
Not really knowing how to go about it, it wasn’t until the fourth use that I started to notice a bit of firming in my skin and a bit of a glow. With these results, I was glad to use the product everyday until the end. I’ve used it all as of now, but on the prospect of repurchasing the C-firma (full size or this kit again) was out the door. I liked it but I wasn’t in love. I’m continuing my quest for vitamin c. This will just be a tool to compare to others.

(Muddled swatches :/ Left - C-Firma/Right - B-Hydra)
B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Gel
You didn’t think I would just review the C-Firma and not the entire product that is the Rise +Glow, did you? In combination with the Vitamin C, DE provides a shot of Vitamin B5 to illuminate and hydrate the skin. I’m still working on this product because, really, I didn’t buy this for the B-Hydra but it’s doing okay.
With Vitamin B5 and pineapple extract, this gel serum provided a moisture boost along with hydration and works great in tandem with the C-Firma. It was a little much at first for me when I started using it. I chose to just use the C-firma over the B-hydra to see the benefits of both seperately.
The clear gel is something different and really just a little thing that could make a big difference to the skin. I have not seen this difference. I’ve been trying it on its own for a few days now and I don’t know if it’s not vibing with my sunscreen or not absorbing. I want to like it but at this time, it’s just another product that I’m using to get rid of (only because it hasn’t broke me out).
Have you tried these products? Were they an X (no) or an O (yes)? Any suggestions for vitamin c I should try?
Until next post,
XOXO
