As someone with dry sensitive skin, charcoal is a no-go for me and mud masks are an once in awhile thing. I don’t know about anyone else, but mud masks and especially charcoal mask are not apart of my routine and I bypass almost everything charcoal.
I’ve had things with charcoal that, once placed on my face, burned like hell. My skin flet like it was on fire and my face was a bit red after taking it off.
Receiving these masks from Rebecca (@the_hazel_dragon on IG), I was hesitant, but after her reviews, I just had to try.
Freeman Detoxifying (charcoal; + black sugar) mud mask
I tried this mask first, just to get the charcoal out the way. The mask is a detox mud mask with charcoal to remove impurities and black sugar to help nourish the skin. The mask actually states that it’s for normal to combo skin, which is something that a lot of things say but is not always true for me.
Besides charcoal and sugar, the mask has kaolin mud, ginger root extract, papaya extract, and other extracts. A smooth mud mask that helps to “moisturize, remineralize, and make skin sensationally soft”. I just had to test the claims.
Applying the mask was easy like any mud mask. Since I had a 15ml pouch, I was able to use the whole pouch on my face. It didn’t have a strong charcoal scent which made it easy to keep on for 10 minutes. The mask rinsed off amazingly well and didn’t dry my face out. That was a plus. My skin was a bit dry but not as dry as other charcoal masks have made me. I was really surprised and enjoyed the mask.
Freeman Anti-Stress (dead sea minerals) clay mask
This is the blue mask! I saw Rebecca try this on her instagram and I really wanted to try it. It’s a blue mask! How could you not want to try it?! This anti-stress mask is for all skin types that clears pores and helps to balance out the skin.
The mask contains kaolin, Dead Sea salt, algae extract, lavender and bergamot oil. As much as I don’t like lavender, this mask smells deliciously good. I could keep the mask on forever but since it’s just a 10 minute mask, 10 minutes was how I kept it.
Like the charcoal mask, this clay mask came off easy and didn’t dry out my skin. Both of these masks are now favorites because of this fact and no adverse reaction happened with them. My skin afterwards was a bit dry but not too dry that I can feel the pulling tightness. This mask came in a 175ml tube, so I have a lot to use but I only use it once in awhile.
I’m really grateful that Rebecca introduced these masks to me and I would recommend these to anyone. Plus my niece enjoyed them, so they’re a great mask. I don’t use that many mud/charcoal masks still but every now and again, I know if I need to clear my skin or use a mud mask, I can reach for either one of these masks and be satisfied.

The masks can be found at Wal-mart(in store and online); Detoxifying Mud Mask - $1.37/15ml & Anti-stress Clay Mask - $3.27.
Until next post,
XOXO
