Play! By Sephora is a month beauty subscription box that offers product samples found at Sephora for $10/month. I’ve had this subscription for a year and a half now and it’s something I never get tired of.

This month’s box is all about staycations and pampering oneself for the day and night, focusing on “Me O’Clock”.
I’m disappointed in this box. I went into a full on first impression rant when I got this box. Sephora is supposed to send things based on the Play! Profile you provide but this box just seems so bland and not for me.
I suggested that Sephora provide a way for Play! Subscribers to have a after-purchase survey, similar to Ipsy, to better suit the boxes; something other than the reviews. I think it would help Sephora with keeping subscriptions and get more products to introduce to the public. I’m really considering canceling after December. For this month, I received:
Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores - I don’t do charcoal masks. Almost everyone loves them to help clear the skin but they kind of give my skin a burning sensation. This mask didn’t really, but it didn’t clear my skin either. I first used this as a spot treatment for a pimple that was cystic but it didn’t do much of anything. I used it again all over and really, it just dried down and washed off like any charcoal mask. I didn’t see any difference. My skin felt soft and not really dry but This isn’t a mask I would rave about.
Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Perfect Nude - Sephora Collection products are being slept on. From what I’ve used (skincare and makeup), I’ve been plesently surprised. I don’t wear glosses. Even with the returning trend of lip glosses, I don’t really want to but this lip gel may make me reconsider. Not too sticky and looks great on the lips. It’s name is “Perfect Nude” and it really is. It’s a great gloss for all skin tones. A great job and a great product.
Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara - I have a Marc Jacobs Highliner that I barely use and this mascara is going to be the same. It’s supposed to add volume. It does, with clumps. There are someone people who may like the clumps that the mascara gives but I like to see my individual lashes, not three. The formula isn’t too wet but it’s not for me. This was the star product that Sephora was pushing in this box but it’s not really that great.
Moroccanoil Hair Treatment - I’ve never used anything from this line and after looking at some reviews, it may work for my hair type. My coworker loves the products from the brand and it seems like a great product line. Will have to test it out soon.
Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum - All Caudalie products that I’ve used have been heavenly. I’ve had no trouble from any of them. I don’t have many full size products because $$$. The French based line is just perfect and mixed with my Asian skincare products, it’s works so well. I haven’t broken into this product yet but I’m excited to.
Fragrance of the Month: Burberry My Burberry Blush - I have a certain scent that I like. Kind of floral, a bit of sugar and a bit of spice. This is not it. It’s weird because this is a floral and fruity perfume but It’s not a favorite. It works with my body chemistry (I’ve had some that smell great in the air but stink on my skin) but it’s not something I’ll grab for.
Not a bad box but this doesn’t seem like Sephora tried. I’ve recommended subscription to this box and it’s great but it’s more of a hit or miss now. If you shop Sephora and will get the products, I would get this box. Other than that, try looking into others.
