#XOReview - Battle of the Concealers

I was not really a concealer person when I first got into makeup. I didn’t understand it from what the “beauty guru” were using it for but once I got into a bit of color correcting and then got better in my skincare routine to just be able to just wear concealer, I’m a master of the concealer.

That being said, I’ve tried quite a few to get my right shade and get the ones that I really like. I’ve done the L.A. girl concealer and corrector - my first concealer and very easy to use. They’re cheap and very easy to find in drug stores or beauty supply stores. I haven’t tried high end concealers - not really considering to but you never know. My range for concealers is inexpensive and they work fairly well.

This “battle” is going to be between the concealers that I have in my stash which is only three deep but I only use two of them. I’ve used them for some time and have an opinion that is based on my skin and how they are. If you’ve used these concealers, let me know.

Concealer 1: Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Concealer in C13

I recently bought this concealer but I’ve known about it since it came out. It’s supposed to be comparative to the Colourpop concealer. I was able to get it for $7 USD from Ulta and the first time I picked it up, I picked up C14 but luckily, I had swatched from C13 to C16 on my arm in the store to check the color. I can tell you, this concealer oxidizes. As soon as it dried, I could see that C14 was not my shade but C13 was.

I currently use it kind of like a highlight color but it very close to my actual skincolor. I applies very smoothly and blends out well. It does dry quickly so I will have to blend really quickly but a little goes a long way. It wears great - it doesn’t fade by the end of the day and doesn’t cause a reaction on my skin which makes it a really good concealer in my book.

This concealer does have dimethicone in it, which most people can’t really use or don’t like, but for me, it’s okay and doesn’t affect my skin. On a scale of 1 to 10, this is a 9. I still need to continue to use it but it’s a top concealer for me.

Concealer 2: Colourpop No Filter Concealer in Dark 46

Before the MUR concealer, I purchased the Colourpop for $5 USD. Relatively similar in price but vastly difference when in contact with my skin. I didn’t know really know what shade to get so I just guessed. I actually purchased two difference concealers - Dark 46 and Dark 42 with 42 going to be my highlight shade but both were too light. Dark 46 was the closest to a “highlight” shade that I could get without repurchasing.

I tried this concealer but had to stop using it after about a week. Unlike the MUR which has dimethicone in it, this concealer also has titanium oxide. I don’t know anyone else like me BUT my skin hates Titanium and Zinc oxide. Any product with either of those ingredients results in me getting a large cystic pimple that goes away about a week after I stop using the product. It’s not purging, but actually me breaking out. It’s very frustrating and upsetting because I can’t use any mineral sunscreen without having my skin become irritated. So using this concealer was hell instead of a great experience. If I didn’t have such sensitive skin, then I would really like this concealer, but I’ve been having some bad products from CP lately and have just been avoiding them for some time now.

Concealer 3: Nyx HD Studio Photogenic Concealer in CW8

This is my go-to concealer. I’ve gone through quite a few tubes of this concealer. It is lighter than my skin tone but it blends in nicely and covers well. I have a second tube in CW8.4 which is my skin tone that I’m using on no-makeup makeup days. I don’t have much to say about this concealer. It’s affordable at $5-$6 USD and blends very well. I always end up just grabbing this concealer everyday and if I’m low, I always pick this one up. It’s my tried and true concealer.

I’ve never had trouble with this concealer and truly love this concealer. This concealer does also have Titanium oxide but like I said, I haven’t had any bad reaction with this product. So considering this, I don’t know what could be different with the CP and this one.

Considering all three, the Nyx anc MUR concealer are probably going to be my go to ones as they are easier to just pick up at an Ulta or order online and I’m able to return them as such (CP has a no-return policy). The MUR and Nyx are easy to swatch and figure out my shades (again can’t do with CP) and have great shades that actually match.

So in the end, the “loser” in this battle is the Colourpop with Makeup Revolution and Nyx coming out in a tie.
