It’s not everyday that I get to compare a revamped version of a product but I was lucky to receive the Sunday Riley reformulated Ceramic Slip Cleanser from Influenster for my honest review. I actually had a sample of the original Ceramic Slip Cleanser from the kit that came with Good Genes lactic acid treatment which I love. I did use the cleanser but it wasn’t something I was looking to get. Then, Sunday Riley announced they were reformulating the cleanser.

Once I saw the new cleanser, I was super interested in trying it and was planning on going to get a sample but luckily, Influenster decided to send it my way. Before I get into my opinion on the new cleanser, lets back it up and check out the original cleanser.

Original Cleanser

I picked up the 30ml deluxe sample of the Ceramic Slip cleanser in the Flash Fix kit. I picked it up originally for the Good Genes lactic acid treatment which is one of the best gentle AHAs I’ve tried for my skin and wasn’t planning on using the cleanser but I needed a cleanser.

First things first, the cleanser is made for people with normal to oily skin. I have more of dry skin that gets very tight after clay and mud masks, so this cleanser was not for me.

The cleanser is formulated with French green clay, Moroccan rhassoul lava clay, Vitamin C ester, and neroli oil. The cleanser has a very distinct scent from black pepper oil, frankincense, and sandalwood. The scent is what stood out to me along with how runny the cleanser was. The cleanser had hardly any foaming when I applied it.

It rinsed off well and it was a bit trying but the major thing was scent. It wasn’t too drying but I used it mostly as a second cleanser helping to remove the oil cleanser that I used before which may be why it worked so well.

Sadly, this formula is no longer on the market. That’s where the new Ceramic Slip cleanser comes in.

Reformulated Cleanser

Sunday Riley announced the reformulation in September of 2018 and it got mixed reviews before the product hit the shelves.

This cleanser is made for more for all skin types with French green clay still a major player but with fewer ingredients and a more citrus scent. Another difference is that this cleanser is not advertised as a “clay cleanser” like the original, though it still has the French green clay.

Because the cleanser isn’t heavily pushed with clay as the ingredients (it does have bentonite and kaolin), the cleanser is a lot gentler and more for normal skin types.

I’ve spoke with others who’ve tried this cleanser and it’s because of the change that they don’t really like the cleanser. I understand it. The cleanser was made for oily skin with clay to help pull out the impurities and cleanse the face of the oil of the day but this new one doesn’t really do that. It more of a better morning and second cleanser for people with normal and sensitive skin, which is why I love it.

Considering the difference, I love the new reformulated cleanser. It works great as a second cleanser for me and my skin and I can use it as a morning cleanser without it drying out my skin but considering the name is “Ceramic slip”, I think Sunday Riley should have just kept the cleanser as it was. The clay doesn’t play as big of a role as it did in the original. I think Sunday Riley should have just made this reformulated cleanser as a new cleanser with a different name and kept Ceramic Slip as it was. It would have brought in new users and not really turn away previous users. But that’s just my opinion.

Until next post,

XOXO
